2019 Underway! Thu, April 18, 2019 - 11:18 AM

Welcome to season 2019, to the new players (female and male), all our clubs and the returning veterans of our league. This year is yet again full of firsts for AFL Masters WA, with the introduction of 3 women’s teams in the metro area, paid umpires in the South West, WAFC organised umpiring system in the metro competition, a return to full membership of the National Federation and for most clubs an updated/amended Constitution.

This year we will be honouring some new Life Members, inducting some worthy recipients into the Hall of Fame and announcing Club and Persons of the Year at the Hall of Fame function on June 22nd at Optus Stadium. It will be one of those nights not to be missed, tickets can be purchased through your club.

The southwest has kicked off their, with a few sore bodies but enjoyable football none the less.  The Wongan Hills carnival, a game between Karratha/Port Hedland and Newman in the North saw our other regional centres kick off the season with some fast flowing footy!  Metro fixtures started last Sunday (April 14th)at Ellenbrook and Quinns and were a huge success for all involved. We had the first of many women’s fixtures held at Quinns, good luck and welcome to all those ladies, hope you enjoy the footy in 2019.

We have recently called for nominations for Coaches for the state touring sides who will be heading to Townsville in late September, if you have any interest in attending as a Coach, please put your name forward.  No sides have been determined, although we will start calling for nominations for players in May.  We are looking for Coaches for men’s and women’s teams.

We have some amazing sponsors again this year and we wish to thank them for their support, and we hope you reciprocate you support with them.  The WAFC, Burley Sekem, Insurance 4 Footballers, Myelec, Minuteman Press Welshpool, EWA Electrical Distributors, Paraplegic Benefit Fund, Cranetech Australia and Rottnest Express.

Don't forget ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED FOR 2019 THROUGH FOOTYWEB.  All clubs have been advised of this, if you are unsure, contact your local club registrar.

Thanks also to the many volunteers at club level, on game day, the umpires and on those who are on the Board for your time and effort to make AFLMWA an enjoyable experience. Remember, we play for fun under the motto of “Football for Kicks”, so get out there have some fun, get a kick and socialise with your mates. And as a mate, if you see someone not quite themselves or needing a little support, take the step, reach out and offer an ear, and ask “R U Ok”. You may just provide that little bit of positive influence that can help someone in need.

As always should you or your club have any issues or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Board Administrator, James Hunt on administrator@aflmasterswa.com.au or 9287 5567

See you on the park,

Nathan
